National Night Out
Our Towne Lake Community National Night Out event is this Sunday, October 5th, at the Lakehouse circle driveway from 2pm to 4:30pm. A variety of local businesses and agencies are participating this year. (See flyer.) There will be a bounce house for the kids, food trucks, & giveaways.
This year we will be collecting gently used stuffed animals for the sheriffs to keep in their vehicles for events where children may be in crisis. And any of our younger residents that donate a stuffed animal will receive a cup of Orange Leaf frozen yogurt as thanks. Plan to come out and meet your neighbors as well as support our first responders. And make sure you say hi to “Bobber”, the water safety dog!
We will also have posters for the kids, (adults too), to sign for each of the first responder agencies with plenty of markers available! Bring a card or note of thanks if you’d like.
What is National Night Out? National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement by providing a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
If you cannot attend on Sunday, please consider having your own local “block party” on Tuesday, October 7th, anytime from 6pm to 9pm. (National Night Out in Texas is the first Tuesday in October.) Consider having sidewalk chalk, a football or soccer ball to help entertain the kids. Mosquito spray & fogger are good options to have on hand.
Even if your area isn’t planning an event, turn off TVs, computers, video games and turn on your porch light and spend some time outside with your neighbors. Get out your lawn chairs, go for a walk or ride your bike. Take a few minutes to meet a new neighbor and agree to look out for each other. Knowing your neighbors is one of the first steps in crime prevention.
Please remember, our first responders are on duty and may get called to an incident or may not be able to make an appearance at an event.
Hope to see you out with your neighbors! The more you know about your neighborhood, the easier it is to keep it safe.
